A Season for Receiving

Luke 1:26-38

Imagine! God loves the world so much that he interrupts life as we know it, giving us in a way that is vital for the world’s salvation. God comes to you (in a dream, by an angel, even in a worship service) ans says, “Hello, Gifted One!” You are more than a little stunned, While you are used to talking about God, talking at God, even sharing prayerfully with God, you’re not at all sure what to do when you realize that God is talking to you. Yes, you! “The Sovereign One is with your.” You wonder what kind of greeting this might be.

“Don’t be afraid,” you are told, a reassurance that God understands what is going on inside of you at the very moment. But before you can exhale, there is more. “Listen! You and I are going to partner. I have a gift that is essential for the world I so love. I’m planting that gift, like a seed, in the fertile soil of your life.” You stammer, “Why me? I did’t volunteer!”

“And with my inspiration – that’s my Spirit, in you – you will receive this gift, give thanks for it, nurture it carefully to fruition, a blessed fullness, and share it generously with the world and all my beloved. This will be a most wonderful expression of my saving love.” Now it is creation that holds its collective breath. What is your response?
